A white pickup truck parked on a rocky hillside in a mountainous landscape with blue sky and scattered clouds.
Close-up of an older man wearing a gray beanie, a brown jacket with a shearling collar, and a dark plaid shirt, looking directly at the camera with a serious expression.

In the land of plenty the devil holds all the best recipes.

- MOOK

Gertjan van Mook photographer and field researcher.

Notes from the Road.

Reporting from Europe’s fracture lines — a continent in transition.

Van Mook holds an MA from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam.

He grew up among truck drivers hauling sand and bricks across rough terrain; roads, engines, and motion became his first language.

That rhythm still shapes his work: grounded, sharp, and free from sentiment.

His work has been exhibited across Europe and internationally, and he has shot campaigns for major global brands.

Later, he launched The Man With The Pan® — a spice brand pushing back against Big Food’s erosion of local cuisines.

That experience placed him inside the machinery of global industry and consumer culture, a reality that still runs through his work.

Van Mook writes and photographs from the edges of Europe — where ideology meets geography and where the polished narratives of progress begin to crack.

His work cuts into power, decline, and the widening gap between metropolitan abstraction and lived reality.
